India Post's Philately Passport: Collect 58 Special Postal Stamps Across Tamil Nadu

Travel enthusiasts and stamp collectors now have a new reason to explore Tamil Nadu. India Post has introduced the Philately Passport, a special commemorative booklet that allows visitors to collect 58 unique Permanent Pictorial Cancellations (PPCs) from different locations across the state.

The Tamil Nadu Postal Circle officially launched the initiative on October 28, 2026. Under this programme, visitors can travel to designated locations and collect special pictorial postal stamp impressions at their respective post offices.

Each of the 58 Permanent Pictorial Cancellations represents the identity and significance of a particular location. These special cancellations provide a distinctive way to remember visits to important destinations while encouraging travellers to discover lesser-known places across Tamil Nadu.

The concept is different from conventional souvenir collection. Instead of simply purchasing postcards or taking photographs, visitors can obtain official pictorial postal impressions at the locations they visit and preserve them in their Philately Passport.

The passport was initially made available through Philatelic Bureaus in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy and Puducherry. The launch attracted attention from stamp collectors within Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states.

The main attraction of this initiative is the opportunity to complete a collection of all 58 special cancellations. Travellers can gradually visit different destinations, collect their corresponding postal impressions and build a unique record of their Tamil Nadu journey.

This initiative also offers an opportunity for families, students and philately enthusiasts to combine travel with an interesting collecting activity.

For those who enjoy discovering new destinations, the Philately Passport transforms ordinary sightseeing into a memorable stamp-collecting experience.
