Tiruchendur Murugan Temple Avani Festival Begins with Flag Hoisting

The Avani festival at Tiruchendur Subramania Swamy Temple began grandly on Monday morning (August 31) with the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony.

A large number of devotees witnessed the flag-hoisting ceremony while chanting “Arohara.” The 12-day festival will feature several important events, including the chariot procession on September 9. The temple opened at 1 a.m. on Monday, followed by Viswaroopa Darshan and Udaya Marthanda Abhishekam. The festival flag was hoisted at 5.15 a.m.

Later in the evening, the Appar Swamigal procession will depart from the temple on a golden chapparam and proceed through the streets as part of the Uzhavarapani event. At night, Sri Bali Nayagar, along with Astra Devar, will be taken in a palanquin through the nine streets.

On September 4, marking the fifth day of the festival, Deeparadhana will be held at the Kudavarai Vayil at Melakkoyil at 7.30 p.m. Swamy and Amman will then be taken in separate golden peacock vehicles through the streets.

On September 5, the golden chariot procession will be held in the morning, followed by the silver chariot procession in the evening. On September 6 at 5 a.m., the Urugu Sattai service of Lord Shanmuga Peruman will be held. At 9 a.m., Lord Shanmuga Peruman will proceed in the Vetti Ver Chapparam to Pillaiyan Kattalai Mandapam. At 4 p.m., Swamy will be taken in a golden chapparam through the streets in the red attire.

On September 7 at 5 a.m., Swamy will be taken in a large silver chapparam through the streets in white attire and will reach Melakkoyil. At noon, Swamy will proceed in the Pachai Kadaisal Chapparam in green attire and return to the temple.

The chariot procession will be held on September 9 at 7 a.m.
