CM Vijay to Inaugurate Periyar Arivulagam Library in Coimbatore Today

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay will inaugurate the Periyar Arivulagam library in Coimbatore on October 16, 2026. Built at an estimated cost of ₹300 crore, the seven-storey facility features a science centre, a children’s library and a digital library, among other facilities.

Spread across 1.98 lakh square feet, the library houses more than one lakh books and is designed to support students and other readers.

CM Vijay’s Visit to Coimbatore

Chief Minister Vijay is scheduled to depart from Chennai by a special aircraft and arrive at Coimbatore Airport at 11 AM on Friday. Ministers, senior government officials and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party members are expected to welcome him.

From the airport, the Chief Minister is scheduled to travel along Avinashi Road towards Gandhipuram, where the inauguration ceremony will take place. The proposed roadshow route covers approximately 10 km, allowing him to meet the public along the way.

At around 11:45 AM, Vijay is scheduled to unveil the statue of Periyar and the commemorative plaque at the entrance to Periyar Arivulagam.

Science Centre, Children’s Library and Digital Facilities

Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister is expected to visit the various facilities inside the library complex, including:

- Reception area

- Science centre

- Children’s library

- Reading section

- Digital library

The science centre is intended to provide students with opportunities to explore scientific concepts and support their learning beyond traditional classroom education.

With its extensive collection of books and dedicated learning spaces, the facility is expected to serve as an important educational resource for students and the wider public.

Welfare Assistance and Development Projects

After the inauguration, a formal event will be held on the library premises, where ministers and other dignitaries are expected to present mementoes to the Chief Minister.

Vijay will also inaugurate completed development projects in Coimbatore district, lay foundation stones for new projects and distribute welfare assistance to 100 beneficiaries.

This marks his first participation in a government function in Coimbatore since assuming office as Chief Minister, according to the report.

Traffic Restrictions and Security Arrangements

A large turnout of party workers and members of the public is expected for the Chief Minister’s visit. Barricades have been installed along both sides of Avinashi Road as part of the arrangements.

More than 2,000 police personnel are expected to be deployed between Coimbatore Airport and the library in Gandhipuram. Additional personnel will monitor areas where large crowds are likely to gather.

Drone flights have also been prohibited in the area as part of the security measures for the visit.
