Mylapore Golu Doll Stalls Cause Traffic Congestion Ahead of Navaratri

Temporary Golu doll stalls along North Mada Street and South Mada Street in Mylapore have increased traffic congestion ahead of the Navaratri festival. Residents have urged the Greater Chennai Traffic Police and Chennai Corporation to regulate roadside stalls and ensure safe movement for motorists and pedestrians.

The two busy streets are already experiencing traffic disruptions due to ongoing Chennai Metro Rail construction. The addition of temporary stalls has further reduced the available road space, making it difficult for commuters to travel through the area.

Traffic Congestion Near Kapaleeswarar Temple

North Mada Street and South Mada Street serve residents of Mylapore and Mandaveli and provide access to the famous Kapaleeswarar Temple. The streets also have several jewellery shops, hotels and commercial establishments that attract shoppers and visitors throughout the day.

With Navaratri approaching, the number of people visiting the temple and shopping for festival essentials is expected to increase. Metro construction-related diversions and roadside Golu doll stalls have added to the difficulties faced by daily commuters.

Residents Request Traffic Regulation

Local residents have expressed concern about the reduced road space and increasing congestion, particularly during morning and evening peak hours.

Residents have urged the Traffic Police to deploy personnel along both Mada streets to regulate vehicle movement throughout the Navaratri season. They have also called on the Chennai Corporation and Traffic Police to coordinate the management of temporary stalls and maintain sufficient space for pedestrians and vehicles.

Authorities Urged to Ease Mylapore Traffic

As festive shopping and temple visits increase, residents are seeking immediate measures to prevent further traffic disruption on North Mada Street and South Mada Street.

Proper regulation of temporary stalls, traffic management and pedestrian access could help improve safety and ease congestion in Mylapore during the Navaratri festival.
