Chennai Airport Security Tightened Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit on October 11

Security arrangements have been intensified at Chennai Airport ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Additional security measures are being implemented at the airport, along his travel routes and at the venues where he is scheduled to attend official programmes.

A team of Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel from Delhi, led by ADGP Amit Kumar, has arrived in Chennai to oversee security arrangements.

A special meeting was held at the old airport terminal on Thursday evening. Senior officials from Chennai Airport, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Chennai City Police, intelligence agencies and central and state government departments participated in discussions about the Prime Minister’s arrival, movements and departure.

PM Modi’s Five-Hour Chennai Visit

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive at the old Chennai Airport terminal at 11:10 AM on October 11 on a special flight from Delhi.

After arriving, he will travel by road to Porur to inaugurate the Porur Metro Rail project. From there, he is scheduled to visit IIT Madras in Guindy to participate in government programmes, followed by events at the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam.

The Prime Minister is expected to return to the old airport and depart for Delhi at 4 PM.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is also expected to participate in the programmes.

Although helicopter travel from the airport to Porur was initially planned, the arrangements have been changed. The Prime Minister’s movements during the five-hour visit will take place entirely by road. Additional security arrangements have been requested as roadshows are also being considered at certain locations along the routes.

Restrictions and Additional Security Measures

Security at the old airport has been placed under SPG control for three days, from Friday until Sunday night.

The following precautionary measures have been introduced:

- Drone and inflatable balloon flights have been prohibited near Chennai Airport.

- Permanent employees of courier and cargo companies operating within the old airport complex must display their photo identity cards while on duty.

- Temporary staff have been barred from reporting for duty at these establishments and in airport runway maintenance areas during the three-day period.

- Surveillance has been intensified inside the airport and in surrounding areas.

- Hotels and lodges near the airport are being checked to identify suspicious persons.

In addition to the standard three-tier security protocol, authorities have introduced further checks and d surveillance ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.

The enhanced security arrangements are expected to remain in force until Sunday night, according to airport officials.
