Tamil Nadu Weekend Travel: 2,675 Special Buses to Operate from Chennai

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations (TNSTCs) have announced 2,675 special buses across the state to manage the expected passenger rush during the weekend from August 21 to 23, 2026.

Special bus services will be operated from major bus terminals in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu to accommodate the increased demand for intercity travel.

Special Buses from Kilambakkam

From the Kilambakkam Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus, special buses will operate to Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Tirupur.

A total of 890 special buses will operate on August 21, while 820 buses will operate on August 22.

Special Buses from CMBT

From the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT), special buses will operate to Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur and Bengaluru.

Around 110 special buses will operate each day on August 21 and 22. In addition, 200 special buses will operate from Bengaluru, Tirupur, Erode and Coimbatore to various destinations.

Special Services from Madhavaram

From the Madhavaram Bus Terminus, special buses will operate to Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, Vellore, Hosur and Puducherry.

Around 80 special buses will operate on both August 21 and 22.

465 Special Buses on August 23

To facilitate passengers returning to Chennai and Bengaluru after the weekend, another 465 special buses will operate from various parts of Tamil Nadu on August 23.

Nearly 47,000 Advance Bookings

Advance ticket bookings have already recorded strong demand. So far, 18,762 passengers have booked tickets for Friday, while 10,461 passengers have booked for Saturday and 17,678 passengers have booked for Sunday.

This takes the total number of advance bookings to 46,901, with bookings expected to increase further over the coming days.

Additional officials have been deployed at major bus terminals to monitor the operation of the special bus services and assist passengers during the weekend rush.

Passengers can book their tickets in advance through the TNSTC mobile app or the official TNSTC online booking website.
