Heavy Rain Alert for 11 Tamil Nadu Districts Today

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rain with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in parts of 11 Tamil Nadu districts on Saturday, September 19.

The districts likely to receive heavy rain include Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Ranipet, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupathur, Vellore, Kallakurichi and Madurai.

The weather department said an atmospheric circulation over interior parts of northern Tamil Nadu and nearby areas, along with a trough extending from Marathwada towards the southeast Arabian Sea, is influencing weather conditions over the state.

Several other districts, including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Thanjavur and Pudukkottai, may also experience moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds in some places.

In Chennai and its suburbs, partly cloudy skies are expected, with a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning during the evening and night.

Meanwhile, Palayamkottai recorded the highest temperature in Tamil Nadu at 102.38°F, followed by Madurai Airport at 101.12°F and Thanjavur at 100.4°F.

The weather department also reported that Pullambadi in Tiruchirappalli district received 80 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
