Indian Railways Ticket Cancellation Charges: Check Refund Rules and Latest Fee Structure

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a written reply in Parliament, detailed the cancellation charges and refund rules applicable to reserved train tickets across different classes and cancellation periods.

For regular confirmed tickets, the amount deducted depends on how early passengers cancel their tickets before the scheduled departure of the train.

Cancellation More Than 48 Hours Before Departure

When a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure, the cancellation charges are ₹240 for First AC/Executive Class, ₹200 for Second AC/First Class, ₹180 for Third AC/AC Chair Car/3A Economy, ₹120 for Sleeper Class, and ₹60 for reserved Second Class.

For confirmed tickets cancelled between 48 hours and 12 hours before departure, 25% of the fare will be deducted, subject to the prescribed minimum cancellation charges.

When cancellation takes place between 12 hours and four hours before departure, 50% of the fare will be deducted, subject to the applicable minimum charges.

No refund will be provided for a confirmed ticket cancelled less than four hours before the scheduled departure.

Waiting List and Partially Confirmed Tickets

Waiting-listed or partially confirmed tickets can be cancelled up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train. An administrative charge of ₹60 will be deducted.

Vande Bharat Sleeper and Amrit Bharat Express Cancellation Rules

Different cancellation timelines apply to confirmed tickets on the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express and newly introduced Amrit Bharat Express trains.

When a confirmed ticket is cancelled at least 72 hours before departure, 25% of the fare will be deducted.

For cancellations made between 72 hours and eight hours before departure, 50% of the fare will be deducted. No refund will be provided when a confirmed ticket is cancelled less than eight hours before departure.

For Sleeper Class confirmed tickets on newly introduced Amrit Bharat Express services, the minimum cancellation charge has been reduced for certain distances.

However, there has been no change in the cancellation deadline or charges for waiting-listed and partially confirmed tickets on these train services, according to the Minister`s reply.
