As the Northeast monsoon intensifies, dengue cases are rising sharply in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu. Daily infections have jumped from 10 to over 60, with health experts warning the numbers could double in the next two months.
In Chennai, Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Adyar, and Royapuram are seeing higher infection rates. The Greater Chennai Corporation has stepped up mosquito-control measures, urging residents to:
- Remove stagnant water from containers and terraces
- Clean refrigerator drip trays weekly
- Cover water tanks and clean overhead sumps
Preventing the spread of Aedes mosquitoes, which transmit dengue, requires community participation and vigilance.
