For the financial year 2023/24, ministry of statistics and programme implementation industrial survey have revealed that the state of Tamil Nadu has topped the list of states across India with the highest number of industries. This is considered as a major milestone in India`s economic and industrial development.
There are as many as 40121 industries operating in Tamil Nadu. This is an improvement over the previous year`s figure of 39676. This has made TN as the industrial hub of India. Not only in the industries, but also in the small micro and medium enterprises sector, TN has been leading.
In Tamil Nadu, there are 5.4million or 54lakhs registered small, micro and medium enterprises and this contributes to the Indian economy. Various reasons that have led to a huge progress in TN with respect to industries are the visionary policies of the TN government, development in infrastructure and conducive environment for industrial development etc. It is worthy to note that the employment generated in the manufacturing sector has made TN the economic backbone of India.
In January 2024, Global Investors Meet took place and it was a grand success with investments worth Rs 6.64lakh crores received in just 2 days. Point is that as many as 27lakhs direct and indirect job opportunities would be created. A mammoth amount of Rs 83000 crores is expected as private investment. This would provide jobs for about one lakh people in 10 years.
After TN, Gujarat state is now ranked second in the list with as many as 33311 industries. In the previous year the number of industries in Gujarat state was 31080. The state of Maharashtra is ranked third now with as many as 26539 industries. It is now mentioned that TN has been functioning with the main aim of reaching a one trillion dollars economy by the year 2030.
