Aadi Pooram Festival Begins at Srivilliputhur Andal Temple

The annual Aadi Pooram Festival has commenced with traditional rituals and religious ceremonies at the historic Srivilliputhur Andal Temple in Virudhunagar district, one of Tamil Nadu`s most revered Vaishnavite temples.

The 10-day festival, which celebrates the birth of Goddess Andal, attracts thousands of devotees from across Tamil Nadu and other parts of the country every year. The celebrations began with special poojas, Vedic chants, and ceremonial processions, marking the start of one of the temple`s most significant annual festivals.

Throughout the festival, devotees will participate in a series of religious rituals, cultural programmes, and special processions dedicated to Andal and Sri Rangamannar.

One of the major highlights of the celebrations is the grand temple car (Ther) festival, during which the deities will be taken in a beautifully decorated chariot through the streets of Srivilliputhur. The event is expected to witness the participation of thousands of devotees.

The Aadi Pooram Festival, observed during the Tamil month of Aadi, commemorates the birth anniversary of Andal, the only female Alvar saint in the Sri Vaishnavite tradition. It is regarded as one of the most important religious festivals in Tamil Nadu and holds immense spiritual significance for devotees.

Temple authorities have made extensive arrangements, including crowd management, security, and essential facilities, to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival and provide a safe and comfortable experience for pilgrims visiting the temple.
