Anna University Yet to Appoint Full-Time Controller of Examinations

Anna University in Chennai is yet to appoint a full-time Controller of Examinations, even a year after conducting interviews and shortlisting a candidate. The post has reportedly been managed by an officer in charge for the past five years, raising concerns among university professors.

The delay comes at a time when the university is also functioning without a Vice-Chancellor.

Controller of Examinations Post Remains Vacant

Anna University oversees more than 400 engineering colleges, including four university campus colleges, 16 constituent colleges and hundreds of affiliated private engineering institutions.

The Controller of Examinations plays a crucial role in the university`s academic administration. Key responsibilities include preparing question papers, evaluating answer scripts and handling requests for mark re-totalling.

According to university rules, the Controller of Examinations is the third-most important official after the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar.

Selection Process Completed, Appointment Still Pending

Sources said Anna University invited applications from eligible candidates for the full-time position around a year ago. Interviews were conducted for seven candidates, and one candidate was subsequently shortlisted.

The interview process was conducted by the university`s convener committee, which included Innocent Dhivya, the then Director of Technical Education and an IAS officer.

Previously, the Vice-Chancellor had the authority to appoint a full-time Controller of Examinations. However, the university introduced a selection process involving interviews last year.

The continued delay in filling the post has raised questions about the university`s administrative functioning, particularly given the importance of its examination department to engineering students across Tamil Nadu.
