An atmospheric circulation currently persists over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. The system is likely to develop into a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal today.

Its subsequent movement will be important in determining the intensity of rainfall over Tamil Nadu in the coming days, particularly as the Northeast Monsoon progresses.

In Chennai and its surrounding suburbs, the sky is expected to remain generally cloudy today. Light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some areas.

With the low-pressure system expected to formrm over the Bay of Bengal, rainfall is forecast to continue across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from today through October 25.
