The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast light to moderate rainfall in the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu over the next four days due to variations in westerly winds.

On July 17, isolated places in the Western Ghats and North Coastal Tamil Nadu are likely to receive moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds (30–40 kmph). Light rain with thunderstorms is also expected in a few other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Similar weather conditions are expected to continue on July 18 and 19, with moderate rain likely in isolated Western Ghats districts and light rain forecast for other parts of the State. On July 20, isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may experience light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Light rain is also likely at a few places on July 21 and 22.

The RMC stated that there is no significant change in maximum temperatures expected across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal through July 20, although temperatures may remain slightly above normal in some areas.

Heatwave and Hot, Humid Conditions

Hot and humid weather is expected to prevail over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on July 16 and 17, causing discomfort. Heatwave conditions are also likely in isolated plains of Karur, Erode, Thoothukudi, and Tirunelveli districts.

Chennai Weather Forecast

For Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy today, with maximum temperatures around 38–39°C and minimum temperatures near 28°C. Hot and humid conditions are likely during the day.

On July 17, the city is expected to remain partly cloudy, with the possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in a few areas during the evening or night. The maximum temperature is expected to be 37–38°C, while the minimum temperature may be around 27°C.

Fishermen Advisory

The Meteorological Centre has advised fishermen not to venture into the specified areas of the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea on the notified dates, as strong winds ranging between 45 kmph and 65 kmph are expected over these sea regions. Fishermen are urged to follow the latest weather advisories before heading out to sea.
