The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu starting from May 13, bringing possible relief from the ongoing summer heat. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), districts along the Western Ghats and coastal Tamil Nadu are expected to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next few days.

Officials said the weather change is being caused by atmospheric circulation prevailing over the southeast Arabian Sea, south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, and nearby regions. Due to these conditions, scattered rain activity is likely to increase across the state.

Rain Expected in Several Districts

The weather department stated that districts located in the Western Ghats region, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, and Theni, may continue to receive moderate rainfall. Coastal districts and regions including Puducherry and Karaikal are also likely to witness rain in isolated places.

In Chennai, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy to cloudy, with chances of light rain in some areas over the coming days.

Heat Intensity Slightly Reduced

Though summer temperatures continue to remain high in many districts, officials said the overall heat intensity has reduced slightly compared to recent weeks due to changing weather conditions and intermittent rainfall.

Meteorologists also noted that favourable conditions are gradually developing for the onset of the southwest monsoon, which could bring more rainfall activity to southern India in the coming weeks.

Rainfall Recorded in Last 24 Hours

Several parts of Tamil Nadu witnessed moderate rainfall during the last 24 hours. Hill districts and western regions recorded significant showers, providing relief to residents facing intense summer conditions.
