Gold Price Surges in Chennai: Is This the Right Time to Invest?

After declining yesterday, gold prices rebounded sharply in Chennai on Tuesday, with both gold and silver recording significant gains. The rally comes amid global geopolitical uncertainty, a weaker US dollar and investor focus on upcoming US inflation data.

Gold and Silver Prices in Chennai

The price of 22-carat gold increased by ₹300 per gram to ₹14,250. As a result, the price of one sovereign (8 grams) rose by ₹2,400 to ₹1,14,000.

For pure gold, the price increased by ₹327 to ₹15,545 per gram, taking the price of 8 grams to ₹1,24,360.

Silver also witnessed a sharp rise. The price increased by ₹10 per gram to ₹260, while one kilogram of silver climbed by ₹10,000 to ₹2.60 lakh.

Why Are Gold Prices Rising?

Global bullion prices received support from a softer US dollar and continued geopolitical uncertainty. A weaker dollar generally makes dollar-denominated gold more affordable for buyers holding other currencies.

Investors are also closely watching developments surrounding the US-Iran situation and the Strait of Hormuz, which could influence crude oil prices and broader market sentiment.

Another major factor is upcoming US inflation data. Markets are awaiting the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) figures for clues about the US Federal Reserve`s future interest-rate decisions.

On the MCX, gold futures were trading more than 1% higher during morning trade, while silver also recorded strong gains.

Is This a Good Time to Invest in Gold?

The current environment remains supportive of gold, but the sharp rise also indicates higher short-term volatility. Investors should avoid making decisions based solely on a single day`s price movement.

For long-term investors, a gradual investment approach may be more suitable than investing a large amount at once. Gold can play a diversification role in a portfolio, but investors should also consider their financial goals, investment horizon and risk tolerance.

With US inflation data and geopolitical developments likely to influence prices in the coming days, gold could remain volatile in the near term.
