Southern Railway has announced temporary changes to train services passing through Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) as part of ongoing track maintenance and infrastructure improvement works.

According to official sources, several passenger and express trains will be partially cancelled, short-terminated, or diverted on specific dates to facilitate the smooth execution of these works. The move is aimed at ensuring passenger safety and improving railway operations in the region.

The Trichy–Mayiladuthurai passenger train (Train No. 56700), which departs at 6:05 AM, will be partially cancelled on March 25, 27, 30, and April 1. On these days, the train will run only between Trichy and Kumbakonam, instead of its full route.

Similarly, the Mayiladuthurai–Sengottai Express (Train No. 16847) will be partially cancelled between Mayiladuthurai and Kumbakonam on the same dates. However, the train will resume its journey from Kumbakonam at 1:08 PM towards Sengottai.

In addition, several major express trains will be diverted through alternate routes. These include Sengottai–Mayiladuthurai Express (16848), Mumbai CSMT Express (16352), Kanyakumari–Howrah Express (12666), Guruvayur–Chennai Egmore Express (16128), and Kanyakumari–Hyderabad Special (07229). These trains will operate via Madurai, Manamadurai, Karaikudi, and Trichy on selected dates.

Railway officials stated that these changes are temporary and essential for completing maintenance work safely and efficiently. Passengers travelling through Trichy are advised to check updated train schedules and plan their journeys in advance to avoid inconvenience.
