The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is on track to achieve its property tax collection target for the financial year 2025–26, showing steady growth in civic revenue in Chennai.

Strong Tax Collection Performance

According to officials, the corporation has already collected ₹1,881 crore in property and professional taxes, surpassing last year’s collection of ₹1,855 crore during the same period.

The civic body is aiming to meet its property tax target of ₹2,020 crore before the end of the financial year.

Rise in Professional Tax Revenue

- Professional tax collection has reached ₹406 crore

- Last year’s collection stood at ₹382 crore

- This reflects a steady increase in compliance and revenue growth

Digital Initiatives Boost Collections

Officials attribute the improved performance to several initiatives:

- Increased use of online payment systems

- Deployment of POS machines for easy transactions

- Timely reminders and alerts to taxpayers

- Coordination with banks to avoid last-minute payment issues

These measures have made tax payments more convenient and efficient for residents.

Previous Year Benchmark

In the financial year 2024–25, GCC recorded a total tax collection of ₹2,750 crore, including:

- ₹2,020 crore from property tax

- ₹550 crore from professional tax

This has set a strong benchmark for the current fiscal year.

Final Push Before Deadline

With the financial year nearing completion, the Greater Chennai Corporation is focusing on:

- Encouraging pending taxpayers to clear dues

- Ensuring smooth digital transactions

- Achieving or exceeding the set revenue target

Officials remain confident that the corporation will meet or surpass its tax collection goals, strengthening Chennai’s urban financial system.
