Posted on: 19/Feb/2026 9:20:28 AM

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai has predicted light to moderate rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu, especially across southern and coastal districts, due to a developing low-pressure system over the sea.

According to weather reports, a low-pressure area over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen and move west-northwest, influencing weather conditions across the state.

Rain Forecast for Tamil Nadu

- February 20: Light to moderate rain likely at isolated places over South Tamil Nadu and coastal districts, including Puducherry and Karaikal.

- Other regions of Tamil Nadu are expected to experience mainly dry weather conditions.

- Early morning mist and light fog may prevail in Chennai and nearby northern districts.

Low Pressure System Update

Meteorologists say the low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal is gradually intensifying, which could trigger rainfall activity in southern parts of the state during the coming days.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea as strong winds reaching up to 60 kmph are likely over:

- Gulf of Mannar

- South Tamil Nadu coastal areas

- Kanyakumari Sea region

- Bay of Bengal

Authorities urge coastal communities to follow official weather advisories and safety guidelines.
