The construction of a fourth railway line between Tambaram and Chengalpet has been approved by the railway minister Mr. Ashwini Vaishnav. The railway line would be constructed at a cost of Rs 757.18 cr and it would for a distance of 30.02 kms.
According to the press release from Southern Railways or SR at present there are 3 railway lines between Tambaram and Chengalpet. On these lines, express trains, passenger trains and goods trains are being operated on the Coast- Villupuram- Trichy-Kanyakumari routes. As a result, there is heavy congestion in this area.
In this scenario, the railway minister has given his approval for construction of a fourth railway line between Tambaram and Chengalpet. The current estimated cost for the construction of a fourth line is Rs 713.56 cr. At the time of completion of the fourth railway line construction the estimated cost would be Rs 757.18 cr. It is learnt that after the construction of the fourth line the number of train services between Tambaram and Chengalpet would increase.
