Chennai Metro Ropes in Third Contractor to Expedite Porur-Power House Track Work
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has brought on a third contractor to speed up track laying between Porur and Power House, a key stretch of Phase II Corridor 4 (Poonamallee–Light House).
While the Poonamallee Porur section is nearing inauguration with trial runs already underway, the Porur–Power House stretch has faced delays due to slow progress by the initial contractors. The 3.75-km double-decker viaduct between Alapakkam and Alwarthirunagar is still under construction.
To avoid further delays, CMRL engaged a third contractor while the existing firms continue track work simultaneously at different locations. Officials confirmed that monitoring is ongoing to ensure timely completion.
This stretch is vital for commuters, as it will enable seamless interchange between Phase II and Phase I networks at Vadapalani Metro station.
