Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Heavy Rain Alert Issued for 16 Districts on June 3 and 4

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a heavy rain alert for 16 districts of Tamil Nadu on June 3 and 4 due to prevailing atmospheric conditions over south India.

According to the latest weather bulletin, several districts across western and southern Tamil Nadu are likely to receive thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds over the next few days.

The weather department stated that districts including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Tiruppur, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai are expected to receive heavy rain at isolated places on June 3 and 4.

Earlier, heavy rain with thunderstorms was also forecast for several districts including Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Karur, Namakkal and Tiruchy on June 2.

The Meteorological Department has attributed the weather changes to upper-air cyclonic circulation and moisture movement associated with the advancing southwest monsoon.

Fishermen Warning

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea from June 3 to June 5 as strong winds are expected over Tamil Nadu coastal regions, Gulf of Mannar and Kumari Sea areas. Wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 kmph and could increase up to 60 kmph in some areas.

Chennai Weather

Chennai and surrounding suburban areas are expected to witness partly cloudy skies with chances of light to moderate rainfall over the coming days.

Officials have advised residents in rain-prone districts to remain cautious, especially during thunderstorms and strong wind activity.
