Heavy Rain Alert for 5 Tamil Nadu Districts Today; Chennai Likely to Receive Thunderstorms

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast heavy rainfall in five districts of Tamil Nadu today due to a cyclonic circulation and trough extending over the northern coastal districts of the state.

According to the weather department, Kallakurichi, Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Kanniyakumari, and the hilly areas of Tirunelveli district are likely to receive heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places.

Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is also expected over the Western Ghats districts, delta regions, north interior Tamil Nadu, and Karaikal over the next few days.

In Chennai, the sky is expected to remain generally cloudy, with moderate rain and thunderstorms likely in some parts of the city today. The weather department has also stated that there is no significant change expected in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until June 14.
