AI Cameras to Boost Chennai Corporation’s Drive Against Illegal Waste Dumping
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to strengthen its enforcement against illegal waste dumping by introducing AI-powered cameras on enforcement vehicles across the city. The initiative aims to improve monitoring and ensure strict implementation of Solid Waste Management rules in Chennai.
According to officials, around 55 enforcement vehicles used by the corporation will be equipped with artificial intelligence–based cameras. These cameras will help authorities identify violations such as illegal garbage dumping, improper waste disposal, and other sanitation rule violations in real time.
The AI system will assist enforcement teams by capturing visual evidence, enabling officials to take immediate action against violators. The footage will also support monitoring and improve transparency in waste management operations.
Officials believe the use of AI technology in waste management enforcement will help reduce illegal dumping, improve cleanliness, and strengthen the overall waste management system in Chennai.
