Tamil Nadu Government Forms Chennai City Urban Disaster Management Authority (CCUDMA)
In a significant move to enhance disaster preparedness and response in the city, the Tamil Nadu government has established the Chennai City Urban Disaster Management Authority (CCUDMA). This dedicated authority is aimed at effectively managing and coordinating efforts during natural and urban disasters in Chennai.
The authority will function under the chairmanship of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Commissioner, J. Kumaragurubaran, and will include key officials such as the Chennai District Collector and the City Police Commissioner.
Additional members of the commission include the Deputy Commissioner of GCC, the Chief Executive Officer of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), and the Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department (WRD).
The formation of CCUDMA is expected to streamline disaster response efforts, improve inter-agency coordination, and ensure quicker action during emergencies such as floods, cyclones, and other urban crises.
