The Tamil Nadu State Transport Department will operate 3,565 special buses to Kilambakkam on September 14 and 15 to manage the expected rush of passengers returning to Chennai after the Vinayaka Chaturthi holidays.

Of these, 2,240 special buses will operate on September 14, while 1,325 buses will operate on September 15. An additional 160 buses will run to Madhavaram, while 370 special buses will operate via ECR to Koyambedu.

Around 2.31 lakh passengers travelled from Chennai to various parts of Tamil Nadu on September 11 and 12 for the festival holidays. A heavy return rush is expected from cities including Madurai, Tiruchy, Salem, Coimbatore, Vellore, Dindigul, Krishnagiri, Hosur, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi.

More MTC Buses from Kilambakkam

The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) will increase services from Kilambakkam based on passenger demand. Additional buses will also be deployed at Chennai Central, Egmore and Tambaram railway stations.

Meanwhile, the Transport Commissionerate has intensified omni bus inspections across Tamil Nadu following complaints of excess fares during the festival period. Officials inspected 3,512 buses over three days and collected ₹30.77 lakh in taxes, compliance charges and fines.

Passengers returning to Chennai are advised to plan their journey in advance and expect increased demand at major bus terminals during the post-festival period.
