Passengers travelling through Chennai International Airport should note temporary traffic changes introduced due to Phase-2 expansion works and the construction of Terminal 3. The new traffic arrangements have been implemented to ensure the safety of passengers, vehicles, and airport operations during the ongoing construction activities.

According to an announcement from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the vehicle entry gate located near Terminal 4 has been temporarily closed as part of the expansion work.

New Entry Route for Vehicles

Vehicles arriving at the airport from the Tambaram side must now use an alternate route to enter the airport premises. Drivers are advised to:

- Use the GST Road service lane

- Enter through the Terminal 2 entry gate

Airport authorities have requested motorists to follow signboards and traffic guidance provided near the airport.

Exit Arrangement at Terminal 4

Vehicles leaving the Terminal 4 departure area will be directed through a single designated exit lane. This arrangement is intended to manage vehicle movement efficiently while construction work continues in the area.

No Change for Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 Passengers

Passengers travelling through Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will not face any route changes. They can continue to use the existing access roads and entry points to reach the terminals.

Passenger Transport Facilities

For passenger convenience:

- Battery-operated shuttle vehicles between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will continue to operate normally.

- Battery vehicles operating between Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 will be temporarily suspended.

However, walkalator facilities connecting Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 will remain operational, allowing passengers to move between terminals comfortably.

Temporary Arrangement Until April 24

The traffic diversion and operational changes will remain in effect for 40 days, until April 24, after which normal vehicle entry and movement are expected to resume depending on the progress of construction work.

The Chennai Airport expansion project aims to enhance passenger handling capacity, modernize airport infrastructure, and improve the overall travel experience for both domestic and international passengers.
