AC Waiting Rooms to Be Introduced at 30 Railway Stations in Tamil Nadu
To improve passenger comfort, Southern Railway has announced plans to introduce air-conditioned (AC) waiting rooms at 30 railway stations across Tamil Nadu. The initiative aims to provide better facilities for passengers, especially during long waiting times and the summer season.
Railway officials said the project is part of a broader plan to upgrade passenger amenities at important railway stations in the state. These AC waiting halls will include comfortable seating, clean restrooms, and other basic facilities to ensure a pleasant travel experience.
Currently, AC waiting rooms are already available at several major stations including Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore, Tambaram, Tiruppur, Erode, Tiruchirappalli, Srirangam, Karaikudi, Rameswaram, and Palani.
Recently, a new AC waiting hall was opened at Karur Railway Station, equipped with modern facilities such as Wi-Fi, feeding rooms for mothers, restrooms, and comfortable seating arrangements. The facility operates 24 hours a day, and passengers can use it by paying a nominal fee of around ₹25 per hour.
Southern Railway officials said similar facilities will soon be expanded to 30 railway stations across Tamil Nadu, enhancing passenger convenience and improving overall railway station infrastructure in the state.
