Aadhaar Mandatory for Tamil Nadu’s Annan Seer Scheme: Brides to Receive 8-Gram Gold Coin and Silk Saree

The Tamil Nadu government has made Aadhaar mandatory for women applying for the Annan Seer scheme, which provides eligible brides with an eight-gram 22-carat gold coin and a silk saree.

According to a government notification, brides must provide their Aadhaar details while submitting applications to avail themselves of the scheme. Women who do not have an Aadhaar number must apply for Aadhaar enrolment.

Alternative Documents for Aadhaar Applicants

The government has clarified that applicants who have enrolled for Aadhaar but have not yet received their Aadhaar number can submit one of the prescribed alternative documents.

These include:

- Bank or post office passbook with a photograph

- PAN card

- Passport

- Ration card

- Voter ID card

- MGNREGA job card

- Kisan photo passbook

- Driving licence

- Government-issued photo identity card

- Other documents approved by the concerned department

Applicants should check the applicable requirements before submitting their applications.

Alternative Aadhaar Verification Methods

The government has also specified alternative authentication procedures for cases where Aadhaar verification fails.

If fingerprint authentication is unsuccessful due to poor fingerprint quality, iris scanning or face authentication can be used. If fingerprint or iris verification fails, OTP-based authentication may be adopted.

If the available verification methods fail, officials can verify the authenticity of Aadhaar details using the QR code printed on the Aadhaar letter, as specified in the notification.

These provisions aim to help eligible beneficiaries complete the verification process when biometric authentication is unsuccessful.

Tamil Nadu Allocates ₹812 Crore for Annan Seer Scheme

The state government has accorded administrative sanction for the annual implementation of the Annan Seer scheme.

An initial allocation of ₹812 crore has been provided in the Revised Budget Estimates for 2026–27 to implement the scheme.

Under the scheme, eligible brides will receive an eight-gram 22-carat gold coin and a silk saree, subject to the applicable eligibility criteria.

Women planning to apply are advised to keep their Aadhaar details or prescribed alternative documents ready and follow the official application guidelines.
