Chennai Heatwave Update: Poonamallee Hits 42.3°C, Rain Expected Across Tamil Nadu

Several parts of Chennai, the KTCC region, and neighbouring Vellore district continued to experience severe summer heat, with temperatures crossing 40°C on Friday. According to weather updates shared by Pradeep John, Vellore recorded 41.3°C among official observatories, while Chennai’s Meenambakkam touched 40.8°C.

Among Automatic Weather Stations, Poonamallee emerged as the hottest location with a scorching 42.3°C. Other areas including Tambaram, Avadi, Kelambakkam, Kancheepuram, and Thiruverkadu also recorded extremely high temperatures.

Despite the intense heat, weather observers expect slight relief as temperatures may dip by 1°C to 2°C across Chennai and nearby districts. Cloudy skies, gusty winds, and even a dust storm at Marina Beach signalled changing weather conditions on Saturday morning.

Rainfall and thunderstorm activity are likely to increase across north interior Tamil Nadu and several other districts, bringing temporary respite from the ongoing heatwave. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.
