Chennai Traffic Diversions on October 10 for Rahul Gandhi’s Programme

The Greater Chennai Traffic Police has announced traffic diversions in view of the ‘Manavargalin Kural’ programme by Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, scheduled to take place at Island Grounds, Chennai, on October 10, 2026, from 5 PM to 8 PM.

Traffic diversions will primarily affect commercial vehicles, with additional diversions for public vehicles if necessary.

Commercial Vehicle Traffic Diversions

The following diversion arrangements have been announced:

1. NRT Bridge Top: Commercial vehicles travelling from Royapuram towards Adyar via Rajaji Salai and Kamarajar Salai may be diverted at NRT Bridge towards Mint Bridge via Old Jail Road.

2. LB Road Junction: Commercial vehicles coming from Thiruvanmiyur and OMR will be diverted at LB Road and CPT Junction towards Anna Salai via Gandhi Mandapam.

3. Periyar Statue: Commercial vehicles travelling from Anna Salai towards Parry’s Corner will be diverted at Periyar Statue towards Egmore via Kabalamoorthy Salai.

4. Muthusamy Point: Commercial vehicles travelling from the Parry’s Corner commercial area towards Anna Salai and Kamarajar Salai will be diverted at Muthusamy Point towards EVR Salai. Vehicles coming from Wall Tax Road will not be allowed towards Kamarajar Salai and will be directed to take a U-turn at Muthusamy Point towards Gandhi Irwin Road via EVR Salai.

Public Vehicle Diversions, If Necessary

The traffic police have also outlined the following measures for public vehicles, if required:

• RBI Subway North: Vehicles from Parry’s Corner may be diverted towards North Fort Side Road.

• Muthusamy Point: Vehicles travelling from EVR Salai may be diverted towards RA Mandram, while vehicles from Muthusamy Salai may be diverted towards EVR Salai.

• Adams Road Junction: Vehicles from Kamarajar Salai may be diverted towards Sivananda Salai.

Commuters Advised to Plan Their Journeys

Motorists and commercial vehicle operators travelling through Island Grounds, Anna Salai, Kamarajar Salai, Parry’s Corner and adjoining areas are advised to plan their journeys in advance and follow traffic police instructions.

Commuters should allow extra travel time during the programme hours and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure smooth traffic movement.
