The Southern Railway will operate unreserved special MEMU trains between Tambaram and Madurai on September 16 and 17, 2026, to facilitate the travel of devotees attending the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple Kumbabhishekam. The Maha Kumbabhishekam is scheduled for September 17, 2026, after a gap of 17 years.

Tambaram to Madurai Special Train

Special train No. 06159 will depart from Tambaram at 5:00 PM on September 16 and reach Madurai at 2:20 AM on September 17.

The unreserved MEMU service has been arranged to accommodate the expected increase in passenger traffic as devotees travel from Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu to attend the temple ceremony.

Madurai to Tambaram Return Train

For the return journey, special train No. 06160 will depart from Madurai at 2:00 PM on September 17 and reach Tambaram at 9:45 PM on the same day.

Special Train Stops

The special MEMU train will stop at the following stations:

- Chengalpattu

- Melmaruvathur

- Villupuram

- Vriddhachalam

- Ariyalur

- Srirangam

- Tiruchirappalli

- Dindigul

- Madurai

The additional train service is intended to provide a convenient travel option for devotees travelling to Madurai for the Meenakshi Amman Temple Kumbabhishekam.

Meenakshi Amman Temple Kumbabhishekam 2026

The Maha Kumbabhishekam of the Madurai Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple is scheduled for September 17, 2026. The ceremony is being held 17 years after the previous Maha Kumbabhishekam.

With a large number of devotees expected to attend, Southern Railway has announced additional services to help manage passenger demand between Chennai, Tambaram and Madurai.
