CMDA Completes 50% of Marina Heritage Corridor Project
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has achieved 50% progress in the Rs 18.45-crore Marina Heritage Corridor Project, which aims to enhance infrastructure and highlight the cultural heritage along a 3.2 km stretch from the Labour Statue to the Lighthouse.
The project includes a 4-metre-wide, 2.31 km synthetic bicycle track, nine viewing decks facing landmark buildings such as Madras University, Presidency College, Vivekanandar Illam, Queen Mary’s College, and the Lighthouse. Plans also cover nine bus stops, three police booths, improved pedestrian pathways, streetlights, bollard lighting, and a dedicated exhibition space.
According to CMDA officials, over 800 metres of the cycle track work is completed, bus stop work is progressing swiftly, and two police booths have already been installed. All construction is expected to be finished by January.
