Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Flyover Project to be Completed by November 2027

The Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated corridor project is expected to be fully completed by November 2027, according to Chennai Port Authority Chairman S. Viswanathan and Kamarajar Port Chairman J.P. Irene Cynthia.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, the officials said both Chennai Port and Kamarajar Port together handled a record 107 million tonnes of cargo during the last financial year.

Chennai Port handled 57.9 million tonnes of cargo, while Kamarajar Port managed 49.08 million tonnes. The combined operational revenue of both ports has crossed ₹2,400 crore.

Officials said the Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated expressway project is progressing rapidly and will help ease heavy vehicle movement to and from Chennai Port.

Chennai Port also recorded an operational revenue of ₹1,185 crore and achieved its highest-ever net surplus revenue of ₹434.29 crore in the port’s history.

Meanwhile, Kamarajar Port generated ₹1,239 crore in operational revenue and recorded one of the lowest operating ratios among major ports in India.

The officials also confirmed that the sixth phase deep dredging work worth ₹440 crore at Kamarajar Port has been successfully completed, allowing the port to handle ultra-large cargo vessels with a capacity of up to 2.44 lakh tonnes.

In another major development, traffic studies are currently being carried out by RITES for Chennai Port’s proposed ₹10,000 crore Outer Harbour Project.
