The Election Commission of India has made it mandatory for political parties and candidates in Chennai to obtain prior permission through online registration before conducting any campaign activities.

According to the Chennai District Election Officer, all campaign-related events including public meetings, rallies, and indoor gatherings must be registered through the official Suvidha portal. Applications should be submitted at least 48 hours in advance to receive approval.

Authorities have clearly stated that offline requests or last-minute applications will not be accepted, reinforcing stricter enforcement of election rules ahead of the upcoming polls.

Once submitted, applications will be reviewed by election officials, and approvals will be granted based on compliance with guidelines. In case of rejection, reasons will be provided on the portal itself.

Additionally, organizers must obtain necessary clearances from departments such as the police and public authorities to ensure that campaign events do not disrupt public order or traffic.

This move is part of efforts to ensure transparent, fair, and well-regulated election campaigning in Chennai, in line with the Model Code of Conduct.

Candidates and political parties are advised to strictly follow the guidelines and complete registrations within the specified time to avoid rejection or legal complications.
