The 3rd MCC-Murugappa TN U-17 Boys Schools Hockey Tournament 2025

The winning team Indira Gandhi Higher Secondary School, Madurai receives the trophy for the 3rd MCC-Murugappa TN U-17 Boys Schools Hockey Tournament 2025 from Mr Ashiq J A H, Chief Operating Officer – Sugar & Biofuel, E.I.D.-Parry (India) Limited, along with MCC President Mr Vivek Reddy, Vice President Karthik Rajasekhar and Organising Secretary S L Rajiv Reddy, at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Saturday, July 5, 2025. 

Indira Gandhi Higher Secondary School, Madurai emerged as the winners of the 3rd MCC-Murugappa Tamil Nadu U-17 Boys Schools Hockey Tournament 2025. In the final match against Vellore Government Higher Secondary School, Karnambut, Indira Gandhi HSS scored a last-minute goal to one up their opponents, beating them 3-2, at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here today. 

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Ashiq J A H, Chief Operating Officer – Sugar & Biofuel, E.I.D.-Parry (India) Limited stated that this experience will stay with the students for a lifetime. “This will be a long journey for you. The MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup tournament is dedicated to promoting hockey from the grassroots level, starting with schools. We are proud to nurture future stars and help preserve the spirit of Indian hockey. 

We are happy to see the growth of this tournament since its first edition in 2019. We began with teams from Chennai, and now we have teams from Mettupalayam, Vellore, Hosur, Madurai and, our very own Cuddalore team, Parrys Panthers join us. 

Mr Vivek Reddy, President, MCC said, “We’re thrilled to see how far the schools’ tournament has come since 2019. From a Chennai-only start, it now features teams from across Tamil Nadu. Congratulations to all the teams for a fantastic showing today! Keep playing hard, keep growing we look forward to seeing you back on the field next year.” 

The competition saw participation from eight teams pooled across two groups. This year’s tournament had three teams from Chennai and five from other districts in Tamil Nadu Madurai, Hosur, Mettupalayam, Vellore and Cuddalore. The league matches were conducted on July 3 and 4, with the semi-finals and finals taking place on Saturday, July 5, 2025. 

Five Hercules bicycles from TI Cycles of India were given to the Best Forward – Sanjai from Vellore Govt Hr. Sec. School, Best Player – Ragul Subramanian of Indira Gandhi Hr. Sec. School, Top Goal Scorer – Deepa Prakash from Indira Gandhi Hr. Sec. School, Best Goalkeeper – Akash from St. Paul’s, Chennai. 

RR Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Cuddalore, one of the participating schools promoted by E.I.D.-Parry India Limited, a Murugappa Group company, won the Fair Play Award for 2025. The school was a part of the masterclass by Olympians, held during the 2024 tournament, and their inclusion in this year’s school tournament is to give grassroots players an opportunity to compete with teams across Tamil Nadu.

The 96th All-India MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament 2025 will be held from July 10 to 20, 2025. This will see participation from 10 teams pooled across two groups.
