Sensational!! TN Govt starts school bus services - Students from 25 schools in Chennai to get benefits!!
No more scrambling for space inside the Chennai buses for the school students!! An amazing move from the TN Government!!
The news that has emerged out now is that the TN government has begun school bus services exclusively for the students studying in 25 schools (both government and aided) in Chennai.
To ensure safety of the school students, for the first time buses would enter the school campus and drop off students inside the campuses.
Yesterday, the deputy chief minister of TN Mr. Udayanidhi Stalin became cynosure of many eyes when he flagged off the school bus services and distributed free bus passes for the students for the academic year 2025-26.
Across the entire Tamil Nadu, about 35.12 lakh students would receive free bus passes and this includes 4.1 lakh students in Chennai alone. It is learnt that I the first phase 50 buses would operate along the special student routes. Every day, these buses would start from the depots, stop at designated points and drop the students inside school premises. Point is that in the evening, these buses would pick up the school students in the campuses and return along the same routes.
According to Mr. T. Prabhushankar, MD of MTC though MTC operates 87 students and women exclusive buses in Chennai the students gave up their seats for women and travelled standing with huge bags. The buses were launched to provide a solution for this. Based on the strength and demand, the schools have been chosen in Chennai.
This move by the state government has been appreciated by former school education officer Mr. A. Pugazhendhi. He spoke about how in 2024 many school headmasters requested dedicated bus services as the school students were unable to travel in the regular buses due to overcrowding etc. He concluded that these 50 school buses would reduce absenteeism and improve enrolment.
