Government College of Engineering, Salem Hosts Global Alumni Day - Sangamam 2025

The alumni association of Government College of Engineering (GCE), Salem, celebrated Global Alumni Day – Sangamam 2025 at the Padmashree Muthaiyan Auditorium in the 59-year-old campus today.

Mr. Kamal Bali, Managing Director and President of Volvo Group India, was the chief guest. Guests of honour included Dr. R. Kumar, Founder & Chairman of Navin’s Builders; Mr. M. Venkarachalam, Director (Power) at NLCIL; Dr. V. Balasubramanian, Director at Annamalai University; and S. M. Manimaran, GCE’s Green Guardian.

Speaking on “The Winners’ Recipe in a Turbulent World,” Mr. Kamal Bali highlighted major global shifts, such as the return of big power struggles, the end of economic globalization, the rise of AI and digitalization, sustainability goals, and energy transition. He emphasized India’s strengths demographics, diversity, digitalization, decarbonization, and democracy and urged individuals to work with a higher purpose, build trust for collaboration, focus on organizational culture, remain lifelong learners, and embrace curiosity. “A good leader is one who creates more leaders. The future belongs to collaboration and partnership,” he said.

As a 1975 batch alumnus, Dr. R. Kumar spoke about the importance of balancing vertical and horizontal growth. He explained that while horizontal growth supports material ambitions, vertical growth comes from helping others genuinely. Sharing Navin’s Builders’ 36-year journey, he reaffirmed their principle of prioritizing customers’ interests and encouraged citizens to pay taxes willingly.

The event concluded with an entertainment programme featuring pattimandram, singing, dancing, and other performances. The auditorium was filled with alumni from different batches, many accompanied by their families, making the day a memorable reunion.
