No tests for citizens travelling with E-pass!

Posted on: 26/Aug/2020 12:50:25 PM
The system of checking citizens travelling with E-passes has come down considerably. With this development, the travellers proceed smoothly without any hitches.

In a recent announcement, the Central Government had emphasised that there must be no restrictions for travel from one district to another within the state or from one state to another. Subsequently, the system of E-passes for such travel has been withdrawn in Puducherry and Karnataka.

E-pass system continues in Tamil Nadu In the above situation, the State Government of Tamil Nadu has taken a decision to continue with the prevailing E-pass system for the above travels. The problems encountered in the issue of E-passes have been resolved and from 17th August, the E-pass applications are scrutinized within a day and e-passes are being issued to all categories!

Since the imposition of the lockdown, and the implementation of the E-pass system, over 20 Lakhs citizens have applied for E-passes and obtained them. Over 80000 citizens have applied for travel to Chennai Metro City from17th August and obtained the E-passes and entered Chennai.

Further, over 10000 citizens apply daily for travel from Chennai Metro City and travel to other districts. During this travel, no tests are conducted by the various toll-gates located in the travel routes.

In this regard, the Tamil Nadu State Government Officials shared: The citizens travel from the Chennai Metro City to other districts/cities of Coimbatore, Madurai, and Trichy without any problems. Once they complete their travel, enquiries are conducted on behalf of either the Greater Chennai Corporation or the concerned District Administrations.

On completion of travel, enquiries are conducted to ascertain whether there were any symptoms of fever, cold, etc., were experienced and in case required, they emphasise the concerned travellers to isolate themselves. Within 12 hours after the issue of the E-pass, the invitations/enquiries as above are sent to cell-phones of the respective travellers.

At the same time, the stringent tests that were carried out on the National Highways and the State Highways are NOT being undertaken presently. The travellers carry out their journeys in a smooth way.
