Chennai Weather Update: Red Alert Rainfall Unlikely Today, Says Tamil Nadu Weatherman

Chennai is likely to receive rainfall tonight under the influence of an Upper Air Circulation (UAC). However, the chances of another spell of extremely heavy rainfall, similar to yesterday’s downpour, appear low, according to a weather update shared by Tamil Nadu Weatherman (@praddy06).

Red Alert Rainfall Above 200 mm: Will Chennai Receive More Heavy Rain?

Chennai has historically not experienced consecutive days of 200 mm rainfall triggered by an Upper Air Circulation without a break, Tamil Nadu Weatherman noted. The current UAC is positioned close to Chennai, suggesting that the main convergence zone could remain slightly north of the city.

Tiruvallur and South Andhra Pradesh May Receive Good Rainfall

According to the latest outlook shared by Tamil Nadu Weatherman, rainfall in Chennai today is likely to be more manageable compared with yesterday’s intense spell. The main convergence zone is expected to remain north of the UAC, favouring South Andhra Pradesh and Tiruvallur district, where good rainfall is possible.

As a result, the likelihood of Chennai experiencing another widespread, very heavy rainfall spell similar to yesterday appears relatively low. However, this remains a personal weather assessment, and changes in atmospheric conditions could influence the rainfall pattern.

October 21–22: Key Dates to Watch for Chennai Rainfall

Tamil Nadu Weatherman has identified October 21–22, with a margin of one day on either side, as the next important period to watch for Chennai’s weather.

Although the probability of another massive cloud formation and convergence event like yesterday’s is estimated to be below 10% in the current assessment, the weather forecaster said further updates would be shared if such a development occurs.

Residents are advised to follow official IMD forecasts and local weather alerts, as rainfall intensity and distribution can change rapidly during the northeast monsoon season.
