Passengers at Chennai International Airport faced disruptions overnight after flights to Mumbai and Kuwait were cancelled due to a shortage of passengers, while several other domestic and international services were delayed.

According to airport officials, an Air India flight scheduled to arrive in Chennai from Mumbai at 8.25 pm on Monday, along with its return service departing Chennai at 9.05 pm, was cancelled.

Similarly, a Kuwait Airways flight from Kuwait City scheduled to arrive in Chennai at 2.25 am on Tuesday and its return flight at 3.25 am were also cancelled. Officials stated that all four cancellations were due to insufficient passenger bookings.

Apart from the cancellations, around 12 other flights departing from Chennai to destinations including New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Coimbatore, Kuala Lumpur and Frankfurt were delayed by up to two hours.

Airport sources attributed the delays to operational reasons. However, several passengers expressed frustration over the lack of proper announcements and communication regarding the cancellations and delays.
