PM Narendra Modi Announces Big Bash League Opening Match at Chennai's Chepauk Stadium

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on an official visit to Australia, visited the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where discussions were held on strengthening sporting ties between India and Australia.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi announced that the opening match of Australia`s Big Bash League (BBL) will be held at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai. If implemented, it would mark the first time a foreign domestic T20 league match is hosted in India, making it a historic milestone in international cricket.

As part of the event, former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh met Prime Minister Modi and held discussions during the visit.

The opening BBL fixture is scheduled to be played on December 12 at 2:40 PM, featuring Melbourne Renegades against Perth Scorchers at Chennai`s Chepauk Stadium.

The announcement is expected to further strengthen cricketing cooperation between India and Australia while bringing one of the world`s most popular T20 leagues closer to Indian fans.
