Mambalam, Park Railway Stations Revamped Under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Chennai

The Southern Railway has opened newly redeveloped Mambalam and Park railway stations for public use under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) in Chennai division. With this, the number of operational ABSS stations in the Chennai division has increased to four.

The upgraded stations now feature modern passenger amenities including lifts, renovated platforms, additional ticket counters, CCTV surveillance systems, improved roofing, and digital passenger information displays aimed at enhancing commuter convenience and safety.

Earlier, St Thomas Mount and Sullurpetta railway stations were also reopened after redevelopment works. Southern Railway officials stated that modernization works at Guindy, Chennai Beach, Chengalpattu, and Gummidipoondi stations are nearing completion and will be opened in phases over the coming months.

Rs 14.7 Crore Upgrade at Mambalam Station
Mambalam railway station, one of Chennai’s busiest suburban transit hubs serving thousands of commuters travelling to T Nagar daily, underwent redevelopment works worth Rs 14.7 crore. The project included:

- Installation of lifts
- Additional ticket counters
- Platform modernization
- CCTV camera surveillance
- New platform roofing and shelter facilities

Passengers welcomed the improved infrastructure, especially the addition of roofing facilities which had been a long-pending demand due to overcrowding and lack of adequate shelter.
