The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has planned to relay around 250 roads across the city at an estimated cost of ₹53 crore, ahead of the upcoming elections.

The project includes eight major bus route roads in zones like Royapuram, Teynampet, Perungudi, and Sholinganallur, along with over 240 interior roads. Key stretches identified for relaying include Nelson Manickam Road, Gandhi Irwin Bridge (Egmore), Sterling Road, MMDA Main Roads, and TNPSC Road.

Officials said that many roads currently have only temporary patchwork, which deteriorates during rains, prompting the need for complete relaying.

Key Highlights

- ₹53 crore allocated for road works
- Coverage of 250 roads, including arterial and interior stretches
- Use of bitumen, cement concrete, and paver blocks
- Focus on improving bus route roads and residential streets

Additionally, the corporation plans to appoint a project management consultant at ₹1 crore to monitor progress, ensure quality, and certify completion.
