Greater Chennai Corporation Removes 31 Illegal Hoardings from Chennai Metro Pillars on GST Road

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has removed 31 unauthorised advertisement boards installed on Chennai Metro Rail viaduct pillars along GST Road in Alandur after the required licence fee for the 2026-27 financial year was not paid.

The enforcement action was carried out on Tuesday by officials of the Alandur Zone under the directions of South Zone Commissioner Adap Rasool. The billboards, erected by a private firm on Chennai Metro bridge pillars, were found to have been installed without obtaining the necessary permission from the Corporation.

According to the GCC, the advertisement boards were displayed without official approval and without payment of the prescribed licence fee for the 2026-27 financial year.

As part of its ongoing drive against unauthorised advertisements across Chennai, the Corporation removed 31 hoardings installed on 16 metro bridge pillars along GST Road.

The Greater Chennai Corporation reiterated that all advertisement boards within city limits must be installed only after obtaining the required permission and paying the applicable licence fee.

The civic body also warned that any violation of these regulations would result in penalties, removal of the hoardings, and other appropriate legal action.
