Tamil Nadu Dengue Cases Cross 21,000, 10 Deaths Reported

A total of 21,655 people have been affected by dengue fever in Tamil Nadu between January 1 and October 7, 2026, with 10 deaths reported, Health Minister Arunraj said on Thursday.

The Tamil Nadu Health and Local Administration departments have been carrying out intensive mosquito-control activities and medical camps across the state to control the spread of dengue.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Health Minister Arunraj said that dengue prevention measures are being carried out across Tamil Nadu. Fever camps are being conducted every day, with around 1,000 people tested on average each day.

The minister said that dengue cases in Chennai have gradually declined. However, with the northeast monsoon expected to begin, additional precautionary measures are being taken as dengue cases may increase during the monsoon season.

He also said that awareness activities and preventive measures are being carried out across the state.

The minister advised construction sites to ensure that water does not stagnate. A ₹10,000 fine will be imposed for the first instance of water stagnation, while a higher fine will be collected for a second instance.
