Chennai's Anna Swimming Pool Reopens After ₹2.75 Crore Renovation

The Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority (SDAT) has reopened the Anna Swimming Pool at Chepauk, Chennai, following a comprehensive renovation carried out at a cost of ₹2.75 crore. The upgraded facility was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, Aadhav Arjuna.

The renovated complex features a 50-metre-long, 25-metre-wide main swimming pool with a depth ranging from 4 to 12 feet. A separate training pool, measuring 25 metres in length, 15 metres in width, and 2.5 to 3.5 feet in depth, has also been modernised to support beginners and aspiring swimmers.

The renovation includes upgraded infrastructure, modern safety features, and improved training facilities, providing a safer and more comfortable environment for both professional athletes and the general public.

A 1,500-square-foot air-conditioned gymnasium has also been added to the complex to support fitness and strength training. In addition, four qualified swimming coaches have been appointed to provide professional coaching and encourage greater participation in the sport.

The Tamil Nadu government is also expanding swimming infrastructure across the state. New swimming pools are under construction at the Madurai District Sports Complex at a cost of ₹12.50 crore and the Karur District Sports Complex at ₹6.27 crore. Meanwhile, renovation work is progressing at the Hosur Mini Sports Complex in Krishnagiri district at a cost of ₹23 lakh, and at the Velachery Swimming Pool in Chennai, where redevelopment is being carried out at a cost of ₹16.35 crore.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department Secretary Sandeep Nanduri, SDAT Member Secretary J. Meghanatha Reddy, District Revenue Officer R. Suman, General Manager L. Sujatha, Executive Engineer Pushpalingam, and other senior government officials.
