16 Crore litres of drinking water wasted every day in food outlets in India

A recent information gathered is that 16 Crore litres of drinking water is wasted every day at the various food outlets throughout the country.
International Market survey company Market Sapiens and a magazine from North India joined in this effort to research about the water wasted in the food outlets.
They undertook the research/analysis in the hotels in 15 major cities in India.
The quantity of water served at each table and the amount of water left after the customer departed.
Every customer left behind more than the one-third quantity of water that was served. As per this, it was estimated that on an average, in a hotel/restaurant where 224 customers visit, 16.5 litres of drinking water is wasted.
As per the data provided by the Ministry of Statistics and Planning Implementation based on the 6th Economic census, there are 9.81 Lakh eateries in India.
As per the survey above, it is revealed that 16 Crore litres of drinking water is wasted every day.
