Chennai Heavy Rain Disrupts Flight Services at Airport

Sudden heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in Chennai and its suburban areas last night disrupted flight operations at Chennai International Airport, causing delays to both arriving and departing flights.

Heavy rain lashed Chennai and its suburbs between 7:45 pm and 8:15 pm, accompanied by strong winds. The sudden change in weather conditions significantly affected flight operations at the airport.

9 Flights Unable to Land in Chennai

During the heavy rain and strong winds, nine flights scheduled to land in Chennai were unable to land immediately. Flights arriving from Delhi, Visakhapatnam, Sri Lanka, Hyderabad, Mysuru, Mumbai, Dubai and Bengaluru reportedly remained in the air for an extended period, circling over Chennai while waiting for weather conditions to improve.

Once the rain and strong winds subsided, the flights landed at Chennai Airport one after another.

11 Departing Flights Delayed

Flight departures were also affected by the sudden downpour. Around 11 flights scheduled to depart from Chennai to destinations including Hyderabad, Kochi, Delhi, Sri Lanka, Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, Tiruchirappalli and Coimbatore were temporarily held at the airport.

After the weather conditions improved, the delayed flights gradually resumed operations.

20 Flights Delayed Due to Heavy Rain

The sudden heavy rain, which lasted for around 30 minutes, resulted in delays to approximately 20 arrival and departure flights at Chennai International Airport.

Several departing flights were delayed by around 30 minutes to one hour, causing inconvenience to passengers.

The disruption highlights how sudden spells of heavy rain and strong winds in Chennai can affect airport operations, particularly during periods of rapidly changing weather conditions.
