Chennai to Get 12 Mini Taluk Offices with Exclusive e-Seva Centres to Speed Up Revenue Certificate Services

The Tamil Nadu government has decided to establish 12 mini taluk offices with dedicated e-Seva centres across Chennai to streamline the issuance of revenue certificates and improve citizen services. The proposal is expected to be officially announced during the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly session.

Faster Revenue Certificate Services in Chennai

According to officials from the Revenue Department, the new mini taluk offices will function under the jurisdiction of the existing taluks and will exclusively handle the issuance of revenue-related certificates, including:

- Community Certificate
- Income Certificate
- Nativity Certificate
- Widow Certificate
- Legal Heir Certificate
- Residence Certificate

The initiative aims to reduce processing time, ease congestion at existing taluk offices, and provide faster access to essential government services.

12 Mini Taluks Identified on a Pilot Basis

At present, Chennai has 16 taluk offices. As part of a pilot project, the government has identified 12 locations where mini taluk offices will be established to improve public access to revenue services.

A senior Revenue Department official said:

"Chennai currently has 16 taluk offices. On a pilot basis, 12 mini taluks have been identified to enhance citizen services. These offices will exclusively handle revenue certificate-related work, with headquarters deputy tahsildars serving as officers in charge."

Proposed Locations for Chennai Mini Taluk Offices

The proposed mini taluk offices will be established at:

- Kodungaiyur
- Erukkancherry
- Porur
- Mogappair
- Korattur
- Saligramam
- Neelangarai
- Pallikaranai
- Sholinganallur
- Thiruvanmiyur / Besant Nagar
- Triplicane (Thiruvallikeni)
- Manapakkam

These locations have been identified by the Chennai Collectorate after assessing the need for improved public service delivery.

Exclusive e-Seva Centres in Every Mini Taluk

Each mini taluk office will include a dedicated e-Seva centre, allowing residents to apply for and receive revenue certificates without visiting the parent taluk office.

The move is expected to significantly reduce waiting times, improve accessibility, and make government services more convenient for Chennai residents.

Plan to Reduce Workload of Tahsildars

The Revenue Department is also considering delegating the authority to sign certain revenue certificates to Social Security Scheme Tahsildars, who currently oversee old-age pensions and various welfare schemes.

Officials believe this measure will:

- Reduce ththe workload of regular tahsildars.
- Speed up the processing of certificate applications.
- Improve the overall efficiency of revenue administration.
- Initiative to Strengthen Citizen Services

The proposal was originally conceptualised during the previous DMK government, and groundwork has already been completed by the Chennai Collectorate to identify suitable office locations.

The initiative forms part of the Tamil Nadu government`s broader efforts to modernise revenue administration, simplify public services, reduce processing delays, and improve access to government certificates across Chennai.
